About Stuart
Stuart
grew up in a working-class family in Paisley, raised by a single mum
who worked as an NHS cleaner and nursery dining assistant. His
personal experience gives him the understanding of the reality of
struggling to make ends meet, the impact of insecure work, and the
importance of strong public services that are critical for so many.
He was the first in his family to go to university, and after
attaining his degree he dedicated his career to education and public
service. Whilst studying Stuart made ends meet by working in the NHS
whilst studying and he found working with such dedicated staff an
inspiring experience.
Since qualifying, he worked as a Principal Teacher of Guidance,
Depute Head, and now is a recognised, leading Head Teacher.
His
first Head Teacher role found him leading a school in an area of
deprivation, the school broke records for attainment, improved life
chances for young people, and gave families the opportunities and
support they deserve. Stuart now leads one of the most successful
schools in the country.
As well as being committed in his professional career, Stuart has
been highly active and committed to the Labour movement.
Stuart has formerly been a Labour councillor, Chair of Scottish
Labour, Trade Unionist, Election Agent and a campaign leader with a
proven record of winning elections – most recently in the 2024 UK
General Election where he was Agent for Paisley and Renfrewshire
North MP Alison Taylor.
